Reflections on an ordinary life
Paintings by
Graham Andrew
Once upon a time there was a little pink bean on legs called Rombuctual Bloiter. It had no face, no hands and therefore no personality or way of expressing any emotions. This made him melancholy. To make matters worse, everyone else who lived in this crazy cartoon world seemed to have so much fun.
The following distortions and ‘abominations’ of nature are, as the title of the exhibition suggests, reflections on an ordinary life. The central character of the series is a faceless creature, which spends its time bumbling through a colourful friendly cartoon other-world. Everywhere else faces appear yet the shapes are ambiguous.
Born in 1977 Graham studied painting at Chelsea College Of Art in London, graduating in 1999. His style has evolved since then to his distinctive witty cartoons - an accessible landscape which has attracted and humoured a national audience. He now lives and works in Peckham, London.
